BROKEN BOW, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Lake Patrol said a North Texas man has drowned while kayaking on the Mountain Fork River in southern Oklahoma.

Troopers said 64-year-old Gary Burton of Quinlan, Texas, drowned in the river about three miles east of Broken Bow.

A witness reported seeing Burton's kayak flip Thursday afternoon — then saw Burton swimming toward the kayak when he stopped swimming.

Investigators said the witness was able to pull Burton to shore, but was unable to resuscitate him.

Sad story. I never see people in the rental boats up there in PFDs. On rare occasions a reasonably responsible parent will make their kid but refuse to put the PFD on themselves.

My dad and I are headed up in the morning to chase browns and smallies, Ill see if i can get more info.
