Well the story goes..... I caught a rogue wave it flipped me over didn't have my rod and reels strapped in as I usually do fried my iPhone that was in a waterproof case rolled up and buckled but still took water in. Had rod floats on them but by the time I got my kayak flipped back over got back in I couldn't find any of them went out this morning couldn't locate them so I'm sure someone out there has two new shimano corsairs with falcon rods and a brand new citica with Abu Garcia vendetta that I just got.... My lowrance has water in it so waiting on it to dry hopefully it still works. I had my lifejacket on of course and man I thanked God a million times I did I was exhausted when I got back to shore which was only about 100 yards off I stay in good shape I'm 6'3 220 so wet is a definately a work out. The wind was calm wasn't many waves i guess a boat took off or drove by I never noticed and as I was trying to set my anchor I drifted sideways and next thing I knew I was flying out I managed to hold on to my paddle thankfully I learned alot in a few short minutes that's for sure ill never go out alone again although there was a guy parked next to me I whistled a few times but he was to far out I have a whistle in my lifejacket but I felt like I was in good control and could have just left the yak to float and swim back if needed to but I manged to recover although out there in the water at dark was a pretty weird feeling but I learned and survived a great lesson next time I'll be more aware and better prepared. I had the Gopro mounted but never turned it on so in pics sorry just a expensive and valuable lesson learned. Always wear your life jackets !!

I strap all my gear in NOW! I too lost roughly 300-400$ in gear and phone awhile back, sad part is I FLIPPED THE YAK trying to get back in after a cool down swim! hammer

Lesson learned!(I hope) cool

It was my first flip experience I didn't know the proper techniques to flip it back over I do now after watching some videos and I always have my stuff strapped in except this time bad thing is I've been out before trying to flip it and I couldn't do it very easy but I was also where I could stand up lots easier lol ! It was an experience for sure

Man that sucks. Sorry to hear you lost so much gear. Thanks for posting it though. I've been unsure if I want to put leashes on my rods. Guess I'm gonna have to do it.

like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

It's makes me sick that the leashes were floating in the water as the rods (roughy 600$ or more ) floated away... Simple easy fix that I didn't take time to strap them in now I have to start my collection all over again
