When looking for a used boat, what would you consider high motor hours? 50, 60, 70 per year? Im looking at a boat (06) with 350 motor hours, but is in good shape. The opti has had no major work and runs well, I just cant get past the hours. How long can you realistically expect a two stroke to last assuming that we all run like heck to a spot, fish and run like heck to the next spot? Thanks for you input.

I would think 350 hrs on a 06 boat would be low hours

i would be more concerned with the maintenence program an how it was used than the hrs. if it is clean an well cared for it should be good .

Thats only 59+- per year... Sounds like he's selling it cause he doesn't use it much.
59 is barely an hour per week.

Hours can be deceiving with the invention of side imaging. Lots of hours can be logged staring at the graph.

oh, compression check would be my main concern, and a hole in the bottom of the boat!!

First I would have a good mechanic check out the motor. Will be money well spent.
I have a 225 '02 Opti with 600 hours on it and have had very few issues with it. My guy told me with good care he has seen motors like mine go past 1,000 hours with no major issues. I believe when they put the computer on it they can tell how it was run and if there are any fault codes. I know at Fork most of my hours are at idle looking for those deep fish all summer.
Good luck on your decision.

Hours are irrelevant. I have almost 400 on mine. Probably half of that is scanning at idle speed. Question I would have is if it's the original lower unit and power head?

I've been told that 70 hours a year was the average for a recreational angler. Don't know how much truth was in it.

My boat was new in October 2010 , at 225 hours I saw the break down and 160 were at idle from mostly running the SI and another 10 were under 2000 rpm. There were a few @ WOT I think with SI units accounting for a lot of the hours, they are not as big of a deal as in the past. Get a good trustworthy mechanic and let him evaluate the rig for you ....

Get a good mechanic to go over it and if it looks all good hours is just a mind thing.

Heck, Im lucky if I put 30 minutes a trip on my motor.. My trolling motor gets a workout though.. It depends on the lake your fishing as to how much big motor time you get.. I fish Dunlap a lot.. Put in.. Get away from the dock.. Drop the trolling motor.. Most of my motor time comes cruising the lake when the fishing is over..
