Well I got to go fishing after work yesterday. I started around 7:30 so the fishing was good until dark. So I had these blue LED lights(moon Lite) I bought for a deer feeder to go hog hunting so I thought I would try them when night fishing. This was a bad idea. I set up my floating light and had the leds hanging under the poles. The blue showed the poles and the line so well we did not need any other light. But the blue leds was scarring off bait fish (shad). Then there was no fish for 2 hours until I decided to turn of the leds. Then the bait fish started circling the light and we started catching fish again. But by that time I had to leave so I could still get some good rest for work. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with different color lights?

I also have a green crappie light that is submergible, but the floating light works the best in my opinion. I like to night fish during the summer months and wanted to use LED lights to see my poles easier, but now I am having second thoughts. I guess I will stick with the propane lanterns.

I have been using blue led's inside my boat for several years with no problems. I also use submersible green lights in the water to attract bait. Couple of pics of my boat taken with and w/o flash. Good luck to ya!!!!

Yea I am thinking I might just mount them inside the boat instead of outside above the water.... The lights are super bright and I like how the line shows up in the light, but I just cant believe those lights were scarring off the fish.

Great post! Thanks for sharing...I'm wanting to set out LEDs for bait instead of the old 150,000 candlepower incandescent battery draining antique I've got. So has anyone tried hot pink for the color? Just kidding...but green or white?

I use the green flourescent they work great. I submerge them about a foot or two deep and fish the edges of the light. Works best with no moon.

Green flourescent fo now just below water surface. Draws lots of bait and makes lines easy to see. Catfishing, I want it dark but will flip on blacklights to light up my lines. Blues are good for inside the boat to see in compartments and such.

In my opinion for crappie fishing nothing beats the floating white lights. I have the green submergible light and it works just not as good.

The bait fish are attracted to the light because the game fish wont go in the light, so if you have the lights on and you look with a spotlight the big fish will be LURKING IN THE SHADOWS.
