Wanted to get your thoughts on this.

I love Jig fishing, and in the past all i threw was a Jig and Pig. Now with all of the trailers and soft plastic trailers out there i seldom if ever see or hear anyone throwing the pig.

Do any of you still throw the Pig or have you all gone to the plastic trailers?
I still throw it, and have always thought it would have a more realistic feel to the fish as something alive. I dont throw it as much because it's just not available like in the past when you would see jars and jars of Pigs loading the isles of the fishing section.

I have not used pork since the early to mid 90's lol. But man did we ever catch the fish back in the day. I guess with all the 1000's of different colors and styles of soft plastics I most likely will not use it again. I felt naked without a half dozen jars of the stuff, remembering hooking myself to death trying to get it off the jig at the end of the day. The excto knife to "trim" it as needed. And the little pouches you could keep the thing from drying out. Jars of dye to "color" your hair jigs, when Black/Brwn was the only color you really needed anyways. Great fun to say the least.

I throw pork when the water's in the 50's. Plastic the rest of the time. I'm pretty sure a man could throw a solid black jig with a brown chunk or a brown jig with a black chunk for the rest of his life, year around, and never need anything else.

Other colors of jigs with pretty matching and contrasting skirts and trailers have their place, and will outproduce others in given situations.

UV TightLines beaver when its colder, and a UV TightLines hog when its warms up (like Chapman used on Toledo Bend). If they can see it, they are much more likely to eat it.

Uncle Josh. One of the only pork rind trailers still made today. There used to be a bunch of derivations, metal flake in the jar (strike king), hair on the skin side, multi color options and two-sided coloration. These days, it's pretty much back to basics.

My two favorite jig trailers from UJ are the #1 BIg Daddy Pork Frog and the Flippin" Frog. Dunno if they still make it, but the UJ Spring Lizard was good in the summer when a trailer with bulk and length was the choice.

....and I guess I will add this to the repertoire...

....and xRe, you can effectively catch fish from the bank with jigs, finesse jigs especially....time and a place...

I know Academy carries the Uncle Josh pork trailers. I believe they are $2.99 a jar. I've always wanted to try them, just never picked any up.
