Okay, I am seeking help and feel that someone here may be able to help to restore my sanity.

About 25 years ago I was staying at Martin Dies State Park on Lake Steinhagen. Having never been there before, I left the park in search of a place to fish. I pointed my fiberglass bass boat toward the main lake when I noticed a small cut across the way and to my right, which I later discovered took me to the Neches / Angelina river system. That is about all that I can remember as far as the details of where I went that day.

I have no idea the course I took to find this place, but where I ended up was a very pretty area with high rock bluff banks and crystal clear water. The area was wide enough that we actually were Hydro Sliding there.

I went back the next year and from memory, was able to replicate my travels to find this serene place again.

Now fast forward to present day. I brought my wife there yesterday to see this wonderful site that I have spoken of so many times in the past. And to make a long story short, I could not find the place that I have stored in my memory.

Yesterday, we launched at the Martin Dies Jr. State Park and found the cut that leads to the river system mentioned above. We motored all the way up the Angelina to Hwy 63. I knew that I missed a turn or something, because I never made it to a road on my previous journeys. So I doubled back and re-connected with the Neches River. I followed it up a reasonable distance before convincing myself that based on water color, I probably needed to be looking more on the Angelina side. I tried to explore each cut that branched off the rivers, but my efforts were for naught.

In total, we spent about three or four hours riding and looking for this place that is engrained into my memory.

This morning I looked on Google Earth and still could not find anything that looks like the area I have described.

Any help in finding this place will be appreciated. Please PM me or respond here if you too have seen or even heard of this area.

If the water was that clear, then it had to be up the Angelina. There is some bluffs up past Bevel Port on the north side but don't think they are rocky.Looks like you'll have to do some more boat riding to find it.

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.
