Hey guys, im new on here but am active on many other saltwater forums. Im a saltwater junky 90% of the time but this weekend and all of next week i will be at my family member's house up on possum kingdom. I have fished saltwater all my life but am new to freshwater lake fishing. We are going out with a guide one day, who i have no doubt we will cathc plenty of fish with. But for the rest of the time we will be fishing from the lakehouse dock. they have a little gravel beach that then slopes down gradually into about 15 feet of water about 50 yards away. how should i fish this? with what techniques? we have access to a boat but it's a ski boat and we would prefer to fish from the dock. Please help me with any tips or tricks. i do fly fish as well as fish conventional rods so any technique is open to me

Since you are limited to that one location live bait may be your best bet, minnow or shad will probably catch as much as anything else.

Crankbaits, spinners, texas-rigged worms should all work but I would assume you'd catch more live.

I haven't seen a small mouth out there in over 10 years. I think the mudcrabs killed off the crawfish and thus depleted their food source. I have seen maybe 2 crawfish in 10 years out there.

Chum for catfish or Carp. If you just want to catch a fish throw a can of corn out off the dock and wait a little while the fill your hook with corn and Hold on!

I would have the guide do a drive by the lot and then ask him for opinions.

I do the same thing but with dry dog food. Works great for cats and carp. For bait we just crush the dog food to a powder mix with flour(binder) and then some water. Put enough water to stay on a hook.

Fishing at night underlights or with underwater ones are also productive for white bass. Use any shad or minnow pattern and you will catch'em. I've had great success with Mister Twister luminescent 3" grubs.

White bass can be caught all around the lake. North D&D, Fox Hollow, and the Peanut Patch would be a good place start looking. Humdingers, Sassy's, shad colored crankbaits, and slab/fly combos have been working for me. Even caught a 20" striper last week on a slab I made.
