Sorry if this is dumb question.... I have always catfished from bank. My father-in-law gave me a boat and I was able to get out this past weekend and give it a try. The one issue I was having is while anchored with rods out and clickers on when the boat would "rock" from a wave the rods would bounce and would pull line and cause the clickers to go off. Is this common or was I doing something wrong? If common is there a way to stop or reduce this. Again sorry if this is a dumb question... Translating catfishing from the bank to a boat is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks Tim

If your using circle hooks, try half your poles on clickers and half locked down. See which gets ya the most hookups.

I was using circles. Thanks for the tip. I have another question when the fish are suspended I assume it is best to drop down the side of the boat to the level they are suspended at with the reel locked down and just wait for the the rod to double, correct?

I just back off my drag and turn the clickers on. That solves the drifting issue. Just start cranking down on the pole when you start picking it up. I also fish on the bottom.

Having fun is hard work sometimes! Not the biggest but big enough!

Are you double anchoring? That will help you keep a lot of play out of the boat.

Last night i did a little experiment with my reels. I put half with the clickers on and half with them off. The hookup ratio was pretty even but in the dark it is nice to hear that clicker go screaming and you can jump up and lock it down

I have even better hook up rates with j hooks and clickers. But i still use circles some too.
