Registered: 05/18/05 Posts: 688 Loc: Flower Mound Sorry for the delay, I had to take a shower and down some Advil before downloading the pics. Paul and I headed out about sunrise and tried the A-Frame. The highlight was 1 10" sandbass and a visit with Snaggin Steve and Fuzzy. We then headed down to the dam and found alot of shad on the depth finder. After slabbing for a few minutes, I hooked something that I thought had to be a big cat. It wouldn't budge off the bottom so I figured it must be a flathead. It made a run to deep water and I immediately told Paul to get on the big motor and give chase. Several boats arrived to see what was going on....it was a good thing they were patient, cause I knew it was going to take a while.
After an epic battle, the fish surfaced and Paul and I just about .....well, you know. We searched the boat for rope, twine, gaffs, anything that we could come up with cause we knew the net we had wasn't gonna be big enough. Fuzz called my wife to tell and offered to go get her. He sent Steve instead. She arrived with the camera and some twine that we had requested.
Finally, we got the fish to very shallow water and it made another run busting off the line. Luckily I was in the water myself by now and pushed it towards the boat where it got wedged between the bottom of the boat and the lake bed. Paul brilliantly thought to hook another slab in its dorsal fin right as it got loose. We fought it again for another 20 minutes or so and got it to the boat where we rigged some twine to a 6/0 jig hook and got it in his mouth. I dragged it on to land and after a brief wrestling match, had him corralled enough to allow Paul and I to hoist him for the pics. Here ya go....what a blast. btw....I gave him a big hug and sent him back to wear somebody else out another day.

Glad you enjoyed catching that fish, that is a good story to go along with it too. Thanks for the positive treatment and hope you decide to go after them on purpose sometime, CPR of course.

Thanks Dawson. I can certainly understand why someone would want to hire a guide and go after them. Catchin it was a blast, and watchin it swim off was great to see. It was certainly the biggest and baddest fish I have ever caught.
