hey guys i am heading to lake taneycomo next monday. i was trying to get every thing together and tie up some flies for the trip so far i have sculpins in black and olive, san juans,scuds in gray and olive,and a couple terrestrials i plan on tying. If you have any other suggestions on what i should tie up please let me know. I will be night fishing and fishing in the morning and evening.oh and im not sure what size tippet to use on the sculpins i was planning on throwing them on my 8 weight i dint know if that was overkill or not but i was going to throw them on like 12 pound is this to small to large im not sure about all this trout stuff so please help me out here before i go. all help is apreciated. i have posted about this before but i still dont have it all figured out.thank you

8wt is way overkill. I'd use a 5 or a 6 in there. Last time I was at taneycomo the fish were definitely tippet shy and I was using 4x , the water's super clear and heavy tippet also ruins the action of your fly in small sizes. 4x or 5x should be good which is about 6lb test.
as far as flies olive and black buggers in size 12, some random scud patterns in like 14 or 16, and san juan worms in 12-16 were producing when I was there a few years ago

thank you carp buster and pondbass for the help i was also planning on bringing my 5...... i did not think about wooly buggers i will tie some of them up to.

U are good with the sculpin, scuds, and San Juan's, and definitely add dark colored wooly buggers to your box for low water. Get some small 3-4 inch per second sink tips for low water. Leaders should be 9' 5X, fluorocarbon is key. I have always dropped the scud below a San Juan for high water.
