Sad story and I feel bad for the family. I have never seen a life jacket come off anyone while we were skiing. I guess it can happen.

I've lost a few in my time on the water, I don't know why but I secure mine tight but the speeds u hit the water at can rip them right off, you think they are tight till you get them wet at 50mph.

Exactly, the power of water at those speeds can snap your neck.

I thank God for each day!

I've had the water rip mine off twice from tubing. But I don't think it generally happens if you are going a safe speed. Both times mine came off we were going faster than we should have been.

He might have had one on and was knocked unconsious therefore drowning. I know my slalom vests dont hold me in a savable position like the old trusty orange ones. That being said, I think the article stated they used sonar to find him so his vest must have dislodged. I use the kind that zip and buckle that have an impact rating and I've nearly lost mine on a bad cross wake slalom fall. Bad day for that family.
