There isn't that much, if any at all, weight savings. Have you ever held a cork blank before it goes on a rod? You also have extra finishing parts for split grips. It is all a personal preference.
For muskie fishing I can't use a split grip as that part rests along my ribs and it would kill after a day of fishing.

Bling isn't the worst thing for a good fishing rod as long as it is below the reel seat.

I started to custom form and mold mine, I square off the palm side and carve a pinky grove on the other side. Before and after, one is a 6'6" and the other is a 7'...

I have both. I don't think about this much, but I think I perfer solid cork for when I need to use two hands to cast.

I don't get wrapped up in the weight issue since all my gear is about as light as I can get it without drilling holes in the rod blanks!

I like the look of the split grip better, but weight is not a factor. Just like I've seen some guys post that a round baitcaster weighs 1 1/2 oz more than a lightweight low profile and the lighter weight is somehow easier to fish with. Really? That extra weight is gonna wear you out fishing?

I prefer the classical look and practicality of full cork.

On my bait casters I prefer the full cork grip. But on my spinning rods I like the split grips for some reason.
