I just started fishing a pond that is probably 80% covered with hydrilla. Is this to much? I've caught a few small bass but they've all been only about 10 inches. Im assuming their are bigger fish in their Im just not quite sure what to use to catch them.

The best bait is always the primary food source for the predator.

Assuming in your case that would be bluegills as the primary food source for the bass, then they will be the very best choice for bait to catch bass.

Fish them live...literally catch one and right then put it on a properly rigged rod for the bass. Its about the closest thing to sure thing as we get in fishing.

I am catching my big fish on a weightless super fluke. They are tearing it up in the grass on 4 of my lakes

Do you fish the fluke on top or can in penetrate the grass?

Try fishing a senko or a top water frog.

Read the link above. this is by far the best technique and way to attack water with matted grass and hydrilla. Those mats are hard to penetrate through so at minimum use a 1oz weight with braid to winch the bass threw the weed cover. You cn use a worm, creature bait, or fluke. Ive seen it catch will almost anybait there. Everyone throws a frog or fluke or a senko in this type of situation, but if your asking how to penetrate the grass and get to where bass are, this is the way to do it.

Its called a "penetrator rig" or a "power shot" rig.

+1

Very effective technique for the described conditions...

Ditto on what Meadowlark said. He told me that many years ago and I have always found that a 4 inch bluegill is the best pond "lure" around.

Minnows also work well. Just don't dump them in the pond when finished.
