Going down to Zapata next Friday , I fish lake Tyler alot with 12-15 lb invisx. What size line would be safe down there on crank rod , football jig rod etc ...... My friend James Niggemeyer suggested 12-16# on crank and 16-20# on jig ? That sound accurate ? Don't wanna get my heart broken on a fish of a lifetime
Thx Jake

15-20 cranking shallow less than 12ft, lighter if you are deeper with less trees. 20-25 for the jigs, 65 braid flipping

pretty much covers it all! Also, long rods. no short stumpy regular rods like we use in East Texas. Nothing less than 7'3" on the jig or worm rods! or you run the very very real risk of breaking the rod and not being able to control the fish.

Thx Jake Good advice but I'd stay on the upper end of his suggestions. 9 out of 10 times 20 or 25 lb invisx will be fine even for flipping trees. But more than once I've had freight train bites where I had the drag too tight and broke off. If you want to be safe for anything 65 lb braid isn't a bad idea.

If the fish are stacked in the trees less than 12ft I like cranking 25# invisx with a dd22. Never broke off but I had a heavy action 8ft rod. Makes a big difference

If you flip it or drag it - 80 lb braid. Shallow cranks - 15 lb fluoro. Deep Cranks - 20 lb fluoro.
This will do just fine for you.
