Saw an old 40-48 qt cooler up for grabs and took it with intention of making it into a bait tank for shrimp, but I was wondering is a bubbler enough to keep piggies alive?
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

Coolers like that work with the aeriaters with suction cups that u stick to the bottom of the cooler, but shrimp and piggies seem to last longer in a non square bait keeper. I also use POAGIE SAVER added to the water if I have alot left over for the next day biggest thing is keeping temps down on the water...

Round, dark, deep and a pump that circulates the water is best. The biggest challenges are keeping the water temps down while keeping it dark inside.

If the inside is rounded, you will have better luck with them.
I had a 48 quart cooler and found some white plastic, bent it to round out the corners and glued them in so the inside looked more oval, I was able to keep all kinds of bait fish in it.
I used 2 bubblers and air wands when on a pier, and made sure to keep the water chilly, and it worked good.
The more surface agitation you have the better it is, that also helps to cool the water down a tad.
When in the boat I put a spray bar in it and used a bilge pump to recirculate the water.
The guy that I gave the set up to, carries a car battery with him to the pier and just uses the spray bar now.

Piggies should do fine. Croaker are harder to keep alive. When I was young I used a round water cooler to keep shad alive.

Rounded....dark....deep. for 25$, go get a plastic, blue, 55-gallon food service barrel and use it.
For that matter, a RubberMaid, 35 -gallon, trash can. plumb either however you desire.
