Yes Bell does solve half the problem!
The stumps there do move! Lots of other great places in Texas that are actually free or almost free- omg! You can fish lakes with Florida stockings 8-12 yr ago that have stable or rising water and ample forage with minimal shoreline development . That gets you to the right place. Or just go to fork or falcon like everybody else- that works great as well.
For the right time I like prespawn with stable weather or spawn with stable warming trend and little wind or night fishing the first full moon of summer also with stable weather.

Patience, larger baits, patience, slooooow presentation, deeper water, patience......

Mike thinks for sharing that as well. Really cool that you got to be a part of the Dottie mythology. Very special fish.

You are welcome. Yeah, what an honor to have had a shot at the world record. Don't know how it would have changed my life if I'd caught her, but I'd probably not be a starving artist any longer! cool

In case some of you missed the link I posted on this story, here it is again (notice about 100 folks have read it already since yesterday): http://www.seewald.com/had_chance_at_world_record_bass.htm

Just let luck prevail. I see those kinds of stories on here more often than any other technique.

Hawgs have been driven away from the places most guys like to fish.
we have to fish where we allow them to live. Now the hunt !
Stuff hard to find like old bridges, deep, road beds, junk cars,
wells,springs etc.
Hard to get to spots scatch your boat, dence knarly cover.
Once you find them turn off all electronics stow trol mtr.
Anchor or tie up. You have cast for hours with no luck.
But allways be ready for that light pull. SET THE HOOK!
Could be the bass of your dreams...
Good casting !!

There are no rules in fishing. We limit ourselves when we start trying to apply rules to things of nature. I am somewhat of a trophy hunter too so when I take people fishing I will have them rig up with baits that are proven that I know will get bit like a Zoom Centipede or Baby Ring Fry on a C-rig.

If they start catching fish on the smaller finesse baits I won't change to that bait, rather I will throw something big like a Football Jig or a swimbait to try to entice big momma to bite.

I believe more times than not the larger fish will hang back and watch the youngsters feed off to the side and when a bigger easy meal presents itself they pounce, perhaps even on one of the youngsters!

However, this is just a personal preference. Many guys that are primarily finesse fishermen catch GIANT bass too. Ask Billy Dyson. The day he caught his 12# PB at Fork he was culling through 8 to ten INCH fish trying to put together a limit of Unders for a tourney!

Tell us the story Billy! I wanna hear it again!

If it has to do with bobbers and waterdogs I'm all over it.

Oh, no Hawgs in the pond, just another technique I'm working called patience! LOL and no, the bite didn't come to me, so I have to search for it on a Spinnerbait.
