This is a tragedy for sure. I feel sorry for the families of the victims.

I witnessed this very thing happening on a smaller scale at Lake Monticello one cold foggy morning about 15 years ago. We were sitting near the RR bridge in dense fog and we hear a small 30-50 hp outboard running wide open thru the fog approaching us. It was dead calm and all of a sudden we hear a terrible crashing sound about 100 yards away.

Two guys had run up onto the train bridge far enough that the outboard was out of the water. It was an older stick steered boat and the guy driving was thrown out but fortunately only had some nasty bumps & bruises (some to his ego) but they were both okay. It took six of us to push the boat back into the lake off the concrete riprap so they could be towed back to the ramp.

These guys weren't drunk. They were just inexperienced and not using their heads. Be careful out there guys. It only takes a second to ruin your day.

Someone has lost their life and people are suffering. Let's cut out the critical comments and be respectful of the families and friends grieving. Prayers sent...

This is the second boating accident I have read about this summer. Two guys ran a bass boat up under a pier @ Lake St. John near Newelton, La. in the dark. they both died from their injuries.....I used to run a lot at night a long time ago and had an incident where I could have gotten hurt really bad. I drove one of my rigs through some standing timber one night at about plane speed and ran over about 3 or 4 trees 4 to 6 inches in diameter. Luckily for me this was a new lake and the trees were pine. They crumbled like dirt when I hit them. I had to vacuum most of what was left of them out of my boat the next day. Didn't hurt me or the rig, I'm just glad it was rotten pine trees.......

I've know the guy my whole life, I don't believe he was too drunk to remember names. I could see the crash having him in shock and not remembering. Anything is possible though. He is in jail and nobody I know has talked to him.

Aaron is not a bad person. It just goes to show how one bad decision can change your life, and scores of others. My heart goes out to all the families involved.

Think back when you were that age. There for the grace of God go all(or most) of us.

Sad indeed,, prayers for all involved.

being in the public safety bizz for over 20 years, I can tell you most "accidents" are not truly accidents, but the result of a one or more bad decisions...
