I'm about to buy one. Should I put a 10wt wf line on it or overline it with an 11wt line?

i say no, most line manufactures already make their lines a 1/2 weight heavier. But i've never been a fan of overlining.

I agree. But, you're going to get lots of different answers on this one. sarcastic

I think it depends on how you plan to use it.

If you're planning to use it for long distance casting, I would not upline it. But if you're getting a 10 wt to cast large, heavy flies at short to mid distances, then the heavier line can be helpful.

As Rex says...It all depends...
If you are a false caster with small flies - 10 wt works great IMO.

If you "load and shoot" - I say upline, especially for shooting head systems - I don't catch many fish in the air... grin

I'm don't typically overline a rod. I'm going to be casting large weighted tarpon flies with it.

I was hoping somebody might have hands-on experience with this particular rod. Anybody ever fish with one?

i have the ticrx in 9wt, the ticr in 10wt and the ticrx in 12wt. you wont have any problem casting large tarpon flies or really any fly with the 10wt ticrx. there arent to mant flies my 9wt ticrx can't cast.

weighted flies wont be the problem, its the big light weight air resistant flies that act like a parachute that i have problems casting.

Thanks. I assume you aren't over-lining the rods??

It was my jetty tarpon rod last season and I grew to have a luke-warm relationship with it. After I blew the cork off the first one in two weeks and had a buddy put a foam grip on it I was happier. I used it a lot for fighting wind - when the tarpon are rolling I want to be casting at them no matter what the wind is doing so I heave heavy intermediates to them. A 12wt slick monocore intermediate will absolutely launch from this stick if you're into that kind of thing. From your description WoollyBugger it sounds like you're going to be faced with friendlier conditions so you might be easier able to get away with just the 10wt line. The heavy flys will help load the rod deeply as is.

I bought a SA Tarpon 10wt Intermediate line for it. I've only cast it in my yard for 5 minutes so far, but with no fly tied on and coils still in the line I was shooting 90' into a 15-20mph wind. With a wet line that has the coils stretched out, it should do just fine with a big fly tied on.

I love the line speed. Living and fishing in windy country, tight and speedy loops are your friend. laugh

Remember that on a 10wt line with a fast rod like the TiCrX you have a ton of wiggle room to play with leader construction to compensate for heavy and wind-resistant flies or to lengthen and lighten up a leader for flies that are easier to turn over.

I'd suggest putting a really well-attached premium 80 lb. butt section on it of 2' in length with a perfection loop in it. UV Knot Sense the loop connection. Then you can quickly change out tapered leaders using perfection loop to perfection loop connections to the butt section depending on the circumstances and desired effect. A 10wt can be a very versatile fly rod with an intermediate line and good set of looped heads/leaders.

I started calling mine my rocket launcher, haha. Glad you like it! Remember that you're not going to be able to cast it as long as your 8wt, it'll eventually start killing your arm to continually bust casts into the wind, so you have to pace yourself a bit more. Looking forward to the fish pics from the new stick smile

Do you mean attach the mono to the fly line with a nail knot or similar?
