 Public Canoe Ramp to Brazos Near Simonton

Anyone fish or launch from the public canoe launch near Simonton? I saw it last night on a bike ride and it looked like a nice section of the river to dump in on. Brand new to Kayaking so not real sure if I want to put in there for the first time without others around.Appears to be off of FM 1489.
