I have a new to me 2004 Ranger 521vx, yamaha V-max 250 (49hrs), its kinda slow out of the hole, and top speed was 63-64mph at 5800RPM's. Tanks were full of fuel with lots of gear and (2 people 300lbs). Is this normal for this size boat. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Oh 25p prop, I'm assuming its the stock prop. Thanks

Colby

Thanks ssmith, I was just thinking that 5800 was a little high.

Empty all you don't need and it will go a bit faster. I have same boat with Pro XS and it will run 73 with a light load.

You might want to call Steve at http://www.stevescustomprops.com and have him work with you on a new prop and or your setup. That big motor should push that boat at LEAST 70 mph. smile

ColbyD, I have the same boat as you 521VX but with a 250XS with 25p Fury prop. With two people (500 lbs) and tourney loaded I gps'd at 70.

that boat should easily be closer to 70

my thoughts are

1) the motor is too low
2) the prop needs some work done to it.

hopefully you have the 25T1 vmax prop.

the fury is not a bad choice either.

I had a Ranger and 4-blade prop really helped the hole shot. Talk to Steve.

Not knowing area of country you run your boat. Elevation makes a lot of difference. Example: At Alan Henry a boat that will run 65 will run 70+ at Amistad.
