This is the kind of stuff I don't know how to do.

Humminbird sent me a new unit, Fedex lost my other one. I plugged the unit in and it won't read my gps marks on the lake. It shows them all in the picture page.....
How do I get them on the map?

Sounds like a possable bad card slot. Switch the cards around and see if it works.

Switched them all around a couple times just now. All that shows is the screen shots, 667 of them with their gps coords and all. But still no marks on the lake.

Did you save the waypoints on an SD card or just a picture of them? Did you save them to your computer for backup? If you only saved the waypoints as a picture file......bad news...

All I did was pull the card out of the old one and put it in the new one. Does it not save to the sd card when I hit the mark button?

You have to put clean card in slot and hit (export data) in the menu for it to be put on card as a GPX file.

I was hoping it was the card reader problem. I had to send my 898 back because it had a bad card reader. HB had a quick 3 day turn around.

Maybe I'm not understanding. The sd card has my pictures on the picture page. Why would the locations on the lakes not show up?

Because all you put on the card was a picture. On any unit no matter the brand you have to export data to a card. On your unit it will be a gpx file. On Lowrance I think it is a usr file. The data is not automatically saved to the SD card unless you tell the unit to export data.

Ok, thanks Bobcat!

He called me and explained it a bit.

I didn't save the way points to my sd card when I shipped it off, thinking everythime I I hit mark, it was saving to the card, oops. I did however, turn screen shot on every time I mark something. So 90% of my waypoints are saved. I just have to enter 671 way points manually.

Well, I guess I'll be busy for awhile.

Thanks again.

Everyone needs to download the Humminbird PC from HB's website and back up all waypoints, tracks and routes they have ever few weeks or months depending on how often they fish.

Put GPS cords on Clean SD card by using the (export data in the menu) then transfer them to a card. Then transfer them to your Humminbird pc at home by just plugging in a SD card in the card reader and creating a file name. You can have lots of different files. Never lose another gps cord again. They will always be home waiting on you no matter what happens to your unit.

I also use Easy GPS to break down all my stuff lake by lake or the ones I fish the most, this way all my data is not on my unit at one time. You never know what can happen and lose your stuff to unwanted eyes...

In HB pc, you can also edit waypoint info such as icons, rename them and so on. Then hit the google earth button and it will show you where all your stuff is located by showing you pics of you spots. Really nice programs.

When you export from your Humminbird unit to a card it is in the .HWR format...This is the format that Humminbird uses...If you open that file in Humminbird PC it converts it to a .GPX file which is the GPS exchange format...From there you have to convert it back to .HWR format to load on your hummingbird...

As Benny said learn and use HumminbirdPC and EasyGPS, they are free programs and you can do anything necessary to manage your files with these two programs...They both use .GPX files but HBPC will convert the .GPX to HWR for HB use and EasyGPS will convert a .GPX to .USR for Lowrance use...

Can I rent you both one night for a case of beer when I get my next boat?
