Anybody else fishing Somerville and noticed the lack of bite recently? I know it's not just me, but just wanted to see what others have experienced lately there. I was on em pretty good from April-July but its really shut off. The fish are there and I'm right in the middle of the shad, but I cant hardly catch any whites or hybrids anymore.

Is this typical this time of year for Somerville?

We went out last Friday same scenario. We were right in the middle of the shad and saw fish all along the humps in front of rocky creek on the depth finder but no bite. It generally slows down with the heat but trolling through there with crank baits and jigging spoons we should have enticed some kind of bite. It's frustrating but I guess that's why they call it fishing!

Went back out this morning and fished from daylight until noon. Caught 15 whites over by Welsh Park. Unfortunately 14 of them were less than 6 inches long. Kept thinking the bigger one's will move in, but we only caught 1 keeper.

I hate to do it, but I think it's time for me to stay away from Somerville until it cools down some.

Fishing for Whites in the summer time is always a challenge at Sommerville. I may go out once per summer and target the whites because I know it is hard to find a pattern with them in the summer. From Mid June to mid Sept. I don't fish for 'em. Burned a lot of gas and boat time trying to make it work.

I know the lake pretty well and can catch them consistently any time except for those summer months. I don't know what it is but bait and fish will be on the graph but the fish seem to have lockjaw on everything in the tacklebox. I may get 10 keepers in the summer months in a few hrs. fishing and I'd call it a day since I had to run all over the lake to find 'em.

I know I said I was going to stay away but I went back to Somerville this morning. The good news is all of the 4 inch white bass I caught are now 6 inches! LOL

Caught a whole mess of them today but zero were legal.

Went out yesterday morning to the hump and caught 20 whites, all about 6 in long. Catfish were slow also. Will try again this weekend.

It has been a few months since I was out there but we got into the 6 inch whites too. We were using double rigs and catching them 2 at a time cast after cast but they were all about 6 inches.

Im wondering if they are done for the year? This is the first year I've fished Somerville, but I have been out there consistently since April.

Anybody catch hybrids consistently out there? I got into them heavy one day in May and caught a limit in about an hour. Smallest was 19" long and the largest was 24". I havent been able to find them to save my life since then though.

AggieBB, I've always heard Summerville was a good white bass lake but only went once (1979) and lake was muddy. White bass fishing slows here at CC also in Aug- Sep. If you are willing to try something different, check out my Mepps Spinner technique. I am able to continue to catch whites in these slow months using it, although not as many as in March-July. What do whites/hybrid look like on the depth finder? How do you recognize them? Is there some distinctive pattern you look for? We've caught a lot of white bass at Somerville but I can't say that I've ever been certain about seeing them on the sonar. I keep hoping I'll start to recognize them but I'm still pretty much in the dark. I fish a lot between the dam and the island. I often see a lot of fish in the deeper water near the drop off. We troll slow and deep through them but I've never caught one out there. We catch them all on the ramp or up on the flat in shallower water where I rarely see any fish on the depth finder.
