I seen an ad on TV not too long ago about a transom saver that attached to your outboard motor and the brace or holder snapped into it to support the engine. Anyone have any info about this. I thought I saved it on my computer but, it has disappeared.
Thanks.

No, this one was advertised on the fishing channel by a fishing pro. Same idea but the other one looked sturdier.

The Lock-n-Haul, pictured above is extremely sturdy. It is made out of aircraft aluminum tubing, which makes it extremely strong, but also extremely lightweight and compact. It is the only 4 point in-line load distribution motor support on the market and will competely stop all movement of your motor while trailering. I first found out about Lock-n-Haul several years ago on this forum and have been using one ever since.

Might want to carry spare transom bolts and wrenches.
After using a traditional transom saver for years, we bought and tried the Lock-n-haul type on the big motor. Midway during the 1st road trip stopping for gas, we spotted a Stainless steel bolt head laying in the boat's splash well. It was from a transom bolt and we found a couple other bolt heads distorted and about to pop. Replaced the transom bolts and went back to using the transom saver hooking to the trailer for support.

You should keep an eye on that and hope it does'nt happen on the water. I've seen a boat without a motor out in the lake before. The Lock-n-Haul could'nt cause this any more than not using anything at all, such as when you are under way.

Most guys use double nuts or nylock nuts or nuts and star washers.... I check mine every time the water pump is replaced.

Except for the bolt without a bolt head, the remaining bolts were not loose......A nylock or star washer did nothing to prevent a boat motor from overstressing a transom bolt enough to shear its head off. It was obvious what caused the sudden extra stress on the transom damaging the bolt heads.

Nothing....vibration is causing the nuts from backing off.... CHAMPIONFISH, The bolt head was sheared off the bolt shaft. The nuts and washers were tight and undamaged. The bolt shafts along the threads though on the upper holes had been stressed so bad they were stretched and no longer straight. We replaced the damaged bolts, removed the so called new 'support bracket' and went back to the old style transom saver. We know a lot of folks that uses the built in motor supports like you are considering, without incident while trailering; just sharing one experience with them , one that not anyone traveling with us and seeing the bolt failures on that trip would consider using them.

From my experience, I have used the http://www.outboardmotorjack.com/ on my Ranger 522 for 10 years without any problems. I know a lot of folks prefer some of the other styles that are on the market. It is very easy to over torque stainless hardware. I do 65 lbs jack plate to transom and 80 lbs motor to jack plate. Stainless steel bolts will stretch. Once stretched they loose all tinsel strength and snap. I use 316 stainless 1/2-13 or 1/2-20 bolts and I know my engine is going to stay on my transom.
