I am headed to a small lake with a lot of of hydrilla. What is the best way to fish the hydrilla? It is thick. Lake depth is shallow, only about 12-15 feet deep and 2-3 feet deep near the banks.

Thanks

Just because I love it, I would throw a texas rig with a heavy tungsten weight to push through the hydrilla. LFT Ring Fry maybe? Also in the late evening I would throw frogs over it.

I won't be there in the evening, but will be there on sun up. Same though? Frog, maybe weedless lizard for the top. What about a heavy jig for down in it? Or would that just tangle up in the hydrilla?

A frog or a fluke fished over the top....weightless or wacky rigged senko on the edge....and a pegged 1 oz. T-Rigged Beaver bait punched down in it.

Very heavy drop shot the Texas rig hook you love. Throw a baby brush hog on it and hang on

These guys are right on the money, used to do this a lot in Louisiana. If you get there at day break throw a weighless T-rig first at the pockets, as the sun comes up clamp on a split shot or two. I'd do this part with a spinning reel/rod combo and then when the sun starts to really bear down switch over to baitcast gear and the heavier weighted T-rig.

+1 on everything said thus far. I like to peg a texas rigged beaver bait with an ounce to ounce and a half tungsten weight. I also use braid when I'm punching Hydrilla, it seems to cut through easier. Good luck.

A couple of more things you might try are the moss frog or rat and one of the most deadly things I ever used; throw a gold chrome and black Smithwich Rogue. I just pitched it at the open pockets and shook my rod tip to get it to make rings. Some of the most violent top water explosions I have ever witnessed I saw while doing this......
