I have never owned a kayak but have rented them on multiple ocassions. I usually take them on small rivers and streams such as the Frio and Medina River. I am thinking of getting two kayaks, a single seat and a two-seat sit-on-top. My wife would use the single and I would use the double with my daughter who is four years of age. I'm skeptical on taking my daughter since she is so young. Before she was botn, my wife and I would always take at least one summer vacation which included kayaking. So with all that, I have a couple of questions. 1. Advice on whether I should take my daughter with us on the double kayak...of course I would only go when there was low water flow. 2. Is a double kayak possible to control with one paddler since my daughter wouldn't be able to help. Thanks for the advice.

Yes. I have taken my double on very long(40 miles) trips with the front end just loaded down with gear.

Yeah as long as conditions are good and all proper safety issues are addressed go for it! A tandem isn't going to squeal around corners and your gonna need a wider berth but you should be fine. You are gonna want to take the seat closest to the stern.
