We planned and easy weekend in POC mainly focusing on wadefishing with topwaters. We found fish sporadically but managed to keep everything interesting. Bone SS jr and skitterwalk jr. both worked. Fish were much more willing to hit tops on saturday morning. After a morning wading, I took kids to the beach and had a chicken fried steak at Cathy. About 6 pm, we took a dozen croaker that a friend had left over and ran out to the jetty. We anchored near the in some really odd conditions. I guess ther was an offshore tourny coming in. Lots of big boats running at speed and throwing large wakes. We fished about an hour and half and caught four bull reds. Evening like that make fishing seem easy. Lower croaker to bottom in 30'+ of water. Wait a few minutes and fish on.

Sunday was slower, wadefishing again. The bait was there. I assumed the fish were but no takers. I switched to a Tiki shad in watermelon on a 5/0 worm hook. I use this all the time for bass but never tried it in saltwater. I did this time simply because I had cut it off when I tied on the top and had it in my pocket. It does a mean walk the dog about 6" below the surface. Pause it and it does a dying flutter the bottom. Like turning on a light switch, I had 10 fish on half again as many casts and totally destroyed the Tiki shad. My Tiki baits were in my fresh water kit which was not in the boat. I had one package of red shad color. I was hestitant to use it but the fish werent. The liked the red color also.

Take the wrong bait and the wrong conditions and catch fish. So much for knowledge. lol

Great story.

The bull reds came from channel side of bid jetty just down from the end. Other than the offshore boats running home and a single sailboat that came through, we were the only ones there. After this weekend, I'm convinced the Tiki shad on a large worm hook is going to be a go to bait for me. Heavy enough to toss with a curado. Light enough not to bury in grass.

I tried searching for a "Tiki shad" and came up blank. Who makes/sales these?

Wavefishing makes them. They are actually Tiki shaddick. Academy used to carry them but I think our local one stopped. I mail order some once a year from Wave but thier shipping cost is high. . I think any of the shad style baits Ie TTF, bass assasin, etc woould work. They just need to slow sink in saltwater. Rig it weedless on a 5/0 worm hood.

I got some 3" Fish Bite paddletails in chartreuse and melon on a clearance. If I cut off the paddle they look almost exactly like your Tiki shad.

The problem is that we rarely get the water clarity you get on the middle and lower coast.

Yea, they are real similar with a little softer plastic and smellier scent impregnation. The get torn up worse than assassins. The only thing that was unique was the 5/0 worm work.
