I put my shotgun up for trade on craigslist and got offered a heritage featherlite. He said it was 9.1ft but all I could find was 9.5 and 12. I was really wanting a sot but it would be my first yak so honestly I don't know what I truly want it's all a guessing game.

Any opinions on this particular yak? I would mainly be fishing in the bayou so I'm not really concerned about the surf I would probably upgrade for that. If I wanted to every once in awhile do you think I could go out at the beach?

Really just want some opinions to help my decision. It seems like a solid deal it comes with two paddles, anchor and life jacket as well as two rod holders but I'm pretty sure it comes factory with those.

Honestly I think the only thing holding me back is the fact it's a sit in. I've read reviews on paddling.net and from what I gather it's a great started yak just want some reassurance before pulling the trigger.

I am new to kayak fishing so I have never fished out of a sit in, but my sit on top has been great for fishing. I got the heritage 10ft angler. From what I can tell I love it. Very stable, tracks straight, lots of room, and not too heavy. With the sit on top I can rotate and sit sideways with my feet hanging off into the water if I get hot. It has been nice. As for going out in the surf I have no experience. But if I were you I wouldn't jump the gun here. Wait out for a sit on top and you will not be upset with the decision.

I don't know anything about the Heritage line but I would say hold off for a sit on top in my opinion. Much better to fish from.

My first yak was a sit in. I loved it. That said, I did much more camping, exploring or wading from the boat more than actual fishing. A sit in you can use in colder weather and your gear seems to be safer, but its much more difficult to right when you roll her. Pros and cons to everything. Nowadays I have both a SINK and SOT. I find myself using the SOT moreoften 4x's to 1.

I knew they would both have pros and cons and planned on buying a nicer yak when the finances were better regardless. I might just wait but then again I'm valuing the gun at $275 and have only found one sot in that range that was decent for fishing. My logic behind trading was it would get me on the water so no more bank fishing and being unemployed I can't really justify buying rounds and clay to shoot just for fun.

Tough decision for sure.

I have owned a heritage yak, I would say hold out for what you want, I made the mistake of buying one because it was what I could afford, 4 months later I sold that yak, yeah it was a decent first yak but I wish I would have held out, now that Ive got my dream yak I am so happy with it.

Id hold off & get a lil better yak as soon as you can. youll get a lot more use out of a SOT IMO & your lower half will melt inside a SOT in this 100 degree weather.

I have a SOT and a SINK. I prefer my SOT. You might get lucky if you post your gun for trade for a SOT on some of the yak forums.

I recently purchased a perception swifty. I mounted some cheap rod holders from Walmart and it seems to work well. You can get a new swifty at dicks for $300. Check out the reviews on it. It is very comfortable and stable. It is a sit in yak. I would have preferred to get a sot but I just couldn't find a deal out there. Mine seems to work for me

Here is a pick of mine with just one rod holder.

IMO I'd look for someone willing to trade a SOT kayak for your shotgun. Value is not always the issue. Sometimes it's they want what you have. Good luck. If we can be of further help, just ask.

I fish my SINK in the summer all the time and my upper half is always hotter than my lower of my body. Actually provides a lil bit of shade in there. But mine is also a big opening in the cockpit its not a small opening like most other sit in's.

I got another offer for an Ocean Kayak Frenzy which is half a foot shorter but is a sit on top. Reviews were a hit or miss, some say it tracked bad others said it tracked without a problem. Again some people said it was only good for surf and others liked it on lakes and rivers.

Anybody on here have any experience with them? Only downside to this one is it has no seat, not sure how much a clip in seat is I'm still googling that one.

I have a Crow Wing pro angler I would be willing to trade. I can send pics to your email if interested. It is a sit on top, with 4 rod holders and 3 storages. It is 8ft, and is rated to hold 250lbs.
