Any thoughts, just bought a couple of 6'6" musky rods and want a couple of reels to make the decent blue cat rigs. I'm not a tourney fisherman but dont want to buy junk.

Mine lasted 2 trips. I exchanged it for a Abu 6500. Their return policy is great but I don't want to loose a big cat because of it

Thanks for the quick responses, looks like I will be going with the Shimano Corvalus 400 instead, just won one on Ebay. Hope yall have no bad reports on them. But let me know if you do cause it can go right back on ebay.

I have one. Its caught fish around 10 lbs with no problem. Had it almost a year. Its got a weak clicker, but thats about my only complaint.

Ever notice, you never read much about a person griping over an ABU? Ive read all kinds of grief over store name reels, shakespear reels, zebco reels, but you dont read much negative about a real, made in Sweden, Abu.
Might be a lesson in that?

Might be a lesson in that? Totally agree. I have 6 Abus and one bps. Also, just realized mine isnt a catt maxx, its the gold mega cast.

I just bought this reel, and landed a 15# blue with no problems.....although I dont think it'd be very good to use from the bank, fishing from the yak I dont really need a whole lot of drag..... But I'm pleased with the mega cast BC

My favorite are my Pflueger contenders, but my pro anglers are real work horses too. Both can handle big fish for sure. I have the Pfluegers on Pro Angler rods, and the pro anglers on TC yellows. Abus are great reels tho. Cannot go wrong with the swiss made ones as others have noted.

The bass pro shop gold mega cast are terrible but the CAT MAX spinning reels are pure BEASTS. I have caught 8 foot bull sharks on them when i were in tampa and they still work great. Just ordered three more for the fall and winter. The best thing is all the way up to 20# mono and you can cast these things a mile on a ten foot rod. The bait casters are garbage but the spinning reels a must.
