Hook and weight location size/style of hook and presentation options. Thanks

I like to use a carolina rig, 15-20 test line, 1/4 - 3/4 oz slip sinker behind ball bearing swivel, 18" line below that with a 3/0 to 5/0 kahle hook or circle hook, hooking the shad through the nose. That is just my way but there are some real experts on here that can and will answer your question. For presentation, real simple for me, go to the bottom, real up three turns, hold steady and hang on. They don't nibble. smile

For shad 4" to 6" long we use a fine wire short shank bent eye 2/0 live bait hook snelled on 18" of 12lb fluorocarbon leader. Tie that to a no.3 barrel swivel with a palamar knot. Then slide a 1oz egg sinker onto the main line and palamar that to the swivel too. Hook the shad through the nostrils.

Match your hook size to your bait size. Use the lightest weight, thinnest wire hook you can. The bait will swim better, be more lively, and live longer. The weight needs to match the bait size. Also the wind and boat speed if drifting. Nothing is engraved in stone. Adapt to what the fish want at the moment.
