Caught this different looking bass. He hit an oil colored worm and put up a hefty fight for his/her size. It had golden colored scales and some feint looking stripes. It maybe be a Guadalupe because it's beefed up set of teeth. Thanks for any feedback strange bass a by CiboloNative, on Flickr . strange bass b by CiboloNative, on Flickr strange bass c by CiboloNative, on Flickr

Where'd ya catch it CD? Might help with the ID. Just looking at it, I'd say it's probably a Guad/Smallie hybrid. Maybe pure breed Guad; maybe not.

Caught it on the Cibolo in a spot where the the current was flowing a bit harder. It came out from under a sunken log.

Some sort of hybrid, full blood Guadalupe bass are extremely rare and hard to find. I'm thinking that that this fish is a Guad/Smallmouth hybrid. It was very aggressive and it didn't like me sticking my hand in its mouth to remove the hook. The teeth were definitely sharper than a smallmouth because when the fish flopped it made micro-sized cuts all over my thumb.

Might just be a pure breed Guad. Smallies and their hybrids don't normally migrate way up into feeder creeks. That's more of a Guad characteristic. The "teeth" thing is more of a bigger river vs. smaller river/stream/creek deal.
Guads are rare, but can be quite prolific in certain places and certain stretches of the right water.

I have caught similar fish at dunlap, i always tought it was sm/guad mix They probably are on Dunlap or just about anywhere on the Lower Guad. A lot of those fish are bigger too. A 12" pure Guad is a big fish. A lot of the ones we catch on the Guad are 14" and up leading us to believe they are some type of hybrids. Smaller specimens in smaller waters tend to make me believe the fish has more of a possibility to be a pure breed Guad. Still not a definite yes or no though because the visual characteristics are so similar for the pure Guad and the hybrids. If you catch a fish like that over 15", it's probably a hybrid. If you catch a fish like that in some backwoods, brush water river, creek and/or stream, it's probably a pure breed Guad. If both circumstances are true, post it on TFF bream board and let the debate begin.

I tried to look for some of my older pics on photobucket but it deleted a lot of my older pics. I guess I ran out of space

I thought bigger teeth was a Guadalupe bass trait.
