New here
I guess I am old school but I have always used Trilene XL back when I was doing alot of fishing. Had about a 15 year lay off, but now my son and I are trying to do more [along with rest of family]. Now all I here is about Braid and Flouro. We bought some of the Nanofil to go on our light spinning gear that we use for Trout and panfish. I love the way it cast but it sticks out like a sore thumb in the water. How is that 4/6 lb Tatsu and Sniper? I know nothing about the Flouro but everyone seems to think it is great for clear water but does not work too good on small spinning reels. I apologize if this is the wrong place to post

one thing a lot of people do is put braid on their spinning gear with a mono leader. The mono is known for less light so it is real hard to see in the water.

Fluorocarbon line is stiffer than nylon mono and doesn't handle very well on small spool spinning reels. It's refractive index is very close to waters so it is nearly invisible under water (may vary by brand). It is sometimes difficult to manage on my regular size rigs when using baits that induce a lot of line twist. A trick is to use Nanofil or braid as your main line and then use a fluoro leader, joining them with a uni to uni knot. Just check your knots often. After reading that test, I might just stick with my trusty old Trilene XL. Sounds like a lot of fancy knots to tie with the leader.

Turf Dawg because of the the line being nearly invisible the mono in certain conditions will help you to catch more fish because they cannot see the line as well as other types.

I can't remember the name of the knot. It won the strongest knot competition and I had been using it for 25+ years. Never a break on fluorocarbon. Basically after passing the line through the hook you make a circle around your fingers, you then hold the circle made against the main line and wrap around the top of the circle and main line 5 times. Then wet and pull the tag end partially tight, slide it down against the hook and apply pressure to both the tag end and main line until tight.
As stated on whichever thread someone posted this knot on a month or so ago, there is zero reason to tie any other knot. Your just showing off and not fishing IMO. Another benefit is I can tie this knot in 7 seconds flat and be fishing again.

The knot is commonly called the Trilene Knot. It used to be pictured on the Trilene Box the line came in. I have used it for 30 years. Best knot ever. Spit on it for lubrication b4 pulling down the tag end. Google Trilene Knot and you will see lots of examples like OldArmy1 posted.

No problem. Interesting point. I don't double loop it through the eye like they say to and have never had an issue. I don't see the harm in double looping it at all and it probably would be required for braid, to keep the knot from slipping. No such issues on fluoro.

I understand that the folks who make braided line recomend the Polamar knot. I will try the Triline knot for sure.
