WOW looks like you'd have to drill a big A_ _ hole to accommodate this vent. Don't know about the rest of the guys,BUT I'm not into drilling on my boat.

Don't like the drilling of big hole. Structural stability, not to mention may be tripping hazard for non boater. Will water come out if in really rough big water? Too many questions for my 2c.

It is one of those products that can't hurt (the fish), but I question just how much benefit you will receive from it. I have a pressurized oxygen system, a livewell chiller, and the fish guardian system for adding Catch and Release at the touch of a button, so I'm pretty will covered.

I been wanting to do something like this for a while but haven't got up the nerves to cut holes in my lids. The option I've been considering is quite a bit cheaper and you have a choice of a smaller 2" hole. Its a soffit vent sold at Home Depot. See them here on Home Depot's website.

Every boat livewell I have ever had already had an overflow hose freely mixing livewell air with external air. I wish there was a way to force senseless 'pretending to be based on science' gimmick products to 1st get an authorization from an accredited engineering or scientific organization before they can start taking money from innocent well intentioned consumers. Anyone today can get a patent on anything since the US Patent office was overwhlemed and gave up and changed their approval policy.

Anyone today can get a patent on anything since the US Patent office was overwhlemed and gave up and changed their approval policy. I don't think an overflow mixes air with water. Just with fresh water. Actually from the research i did on water quality in the summer months there were several reccommendations for some form of vent. In the summer months at night there is less oxygen in the water and for the same reason there is less oxygen in the air. The reason being plants make oxygen in the day and actually use oxygen at night, or at least the water plants use oxygen at night. Recircs and aerators help the water by forcing air into the water and releasing carbon dioxide into the air. This is a harder transaction in the summer especially at night because plants in the air are not removing carbon dioxide and thus the level of carbon dioxide is already more saturated in the air at night. This oversaturation makes it harder to release more carbon dioxide from the water into the air. The vent would allow more of the air from the livewell to vent and cycle if you have an intake and out vent it would really help while running. Fyi the build up of carbon dioxide in the water that can't get out causes the ph to change, this in conjunction with the higher water temps cause an even higher drop in oxygen which causes fish to be more stressed and produce more amonia waste product and again amplifies further the ph problem. Anyhow long story short a vent not neccessarilly this vent could very well be a good thing Also if you want references i can re google where i read this if you want but it took some digging so i'm not re ggogling for the smartie pants crew.

So in the hot summer months, I'll carry along a small block of wood that will slip under my live well lid and keep it open an inch or so (since no one fishes from my back deck anyway). This way I don't have to worry with a constant water mark on my carpet around the vents when there's any kind of chop on the water. Not to mention, water splashing around and out in the winter could be a little chilly down the back of your pants!

I'm going to pass. For one thing how many of us close the lid of the livewell and leave it closed all day long? I'd say few because most of us will open it up and check the water level, temp and fish condition fairly regularly. I know I check mine any time I'm idling about to leave an area and head to another since I'm back there to drive the boat anyhow. Plus with any luck I'm going to be putting more fish in later. Having the lid open for a few minutes should vent out any gases that build up inside pretty easily. Besides the outside air is around about 20% or so oxygen at best anyways I don't think losing a small amount of o2 in the area above the water line will matter much to the fish.
Leave the livewell pump pumping in fresh 100% of the time when water temps are above 75* and the recirc on intermittantly to help mix it and you should be good.
