I hate turtles! Anyone know a good way to bank fish for catfish and keep them away from your bait? I've caught them on liver, night crawlers, dough bait. Little jerks mess up the fishin!

I don't know of a natural bait they won't hit. If it's legal where you fish, you might try taking along a pellet gun and popping a few when they stick their heads out of water.

keep the ones you catch. Take them home with you. Get a BIG pot and get it boiling, then toss the turtles in. After an hour or so, pull them out. Remove the meat. You can fry it or use it in a stew. Good eating.

If your gonna eat turtle (especially sliders) you got to purge them in clean fresh water for at least a week. Or else they taste muddy and fishy.

As stated above you have to have a hunting license.

Turtles usually dont find natural bait such as shad and tilipia before the cats do but when it comes to liver, stinkbait, etc. you can forget it.

Softshell turtles are good to eat. We would purge them for about 6 hours. Then clean them an freeze them in salt water. I do know the salt water helps with the purging when they are thawing out.

I'll have to try this. Does it have to be fresh shad or cut bait or would some of the store bought stuff work?

Have to be fresh shad or whole frozen shad or perch/tilapia. Store bought bait doesnt work that good.

That's what I figured. I haven't found any store bought stuff that works worth a damn.

Anyone use carp for bait?
