The time has come that I am running nearly on empty hook wise.I did a search on hooks and circle hook, but still didn't quite find what I need. I like the idea of circle hooks, but I haven't found one that works very well for me yet. I don't do much boat fishing, but I need an all purpose circle hook. The fish here just don't hit like the fish around dallas/fw. I find I miss more fish than anything with circle hooks here, I've tried everything, smaller hooks, smaller baits. I need a hook that will load up, but still allow for some hook set if they are biting finicky. I read that "mutsu light circle hooks" were pretty well all purpose, I just wanted to see what others thought before I stock up on new hooks. Thanks!

Sounds like a Khale hook might be the answer. From what I understand they still set the hook but allow room for you to set the hook too!

I thank God for each day!

I have had a lot better luck with bigger hooks, I started with 3/0 then went to 5/0 then to 8/0 and now I'm am trying my 10/0 tonight. Of course all I care about catching is big fish. I don't care for anything small bc I don't benefit from it.

I thank God for each day!

You catching mostly Channels? I like 4/0 Kayle on them, for the big fish Blues and yellows, I run 6/0 circles in summer and 8/0 circles in the winter.

Sickle hook will be your best bet. You can let em load up, or set the hook. I may be switching soon matzuo makes the best ones. Gamakatsu big river sickle hooks are supposed to be nice too.

If you use circles, always get the offset

Well I fish for blues, but I catch more channels than anything. Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I'll try some of each, and hopefully figure out what my money hook is.

Team catfish has a double action you might wanna check out. Let em set themselves or try to cross their eyes with a hard hook set.

I'll bug y'all with one more question. Do y'all find any disadvantages to snelling non-circle hooks? It sure is an easy knot to tie.

i snell all the hooks i use period. Even on a regular j hook it pulls the point of the hook upward toward the line.

I thank God for each day!

Jake you'll find it may not be the hook. How you load the hook with bait can make or break you. Take an 8/0 octo circle. Grab a 4" shad. Scrape it. Cut the tail off. Cut a couple slices in its sides without going through. Start the hook in its eye and thread it down the hook till the point comes out where you cut the tail off. It'll keep you bait from fowling up on the hook.

I've been using the Big River hooks with perch heads and shad heads. They have plenty of real estate for sufficiently hooking a bait and leaving room for the gap to stay wide open.

Good luck bro!
