Took my son, Dylan (TFF Cast n Wyld), to fish his first tournament today. We had a blast and he missed winning the big bass by one ounce!! That's not what has me sick. He would have the lake record for Jr Angler if I had known. Lake record for Jr was 1.15 and his measured 20 1/4" and 5lb 12oz. Not his PB by any means, but it would have been a big deal for him to see his name on the TPWD web page for having the record. Well,, there is always tomorrow!!

Was the scales that he weighed the fish on certified by chance?

I have read that if the scale was not certified, i have 60 days to get it certified. Anyone know the process by chance?

hey zack, wish i'd of known myself, turns out we probably let the lake record spotted bass swim away yesterday too without ever getting on a scale, we new we wouldn't be in contention so we just turned our two keepers loose, one of which was a spot pushing three lbs. i guess lake record is 2 lbs something so oh well. we will do what we need to get these certified and get that young man what he deserves. now the only question is how we gonna certify that flat head video.

I have seen this happen on a couple of occasions

Personally, I find it to be a real joke that anyone putting on a tournament, and especially a tournament trail, doesn't have their scales certified

Yea it costs a little money each year to have them recertified but it sure would resolve a lot of questions and possible liability

fishkiller, I am sure you know that most trails Do Not have certified scales. When my son caught a fish we were trying to get certified there was actually a well known trail on Tawakoni that day. Called the TD and no certified scales,we ended up going to brookshire's and they weighed it. Forgot all about ours we use for the Invitational, we have them certified just in case ever a issue. Most Trails do not have them.

not a trail of any kind just a very small group and i try to open it up to anybody who wants to fish with us. if we would have thought about it before it was all said and done i would have been happy to transport the fish in my boat to the nearest cert scales. we weren't far from fork. so if you like to fish for big money and take it real serious all the time then just stay with your "serious" tournaments. this is just a group of guys looking to enjoy some fun competition and a little trash talk on a saturday on the lake. i personally find it to be a real joke that a lot of guys who are by no means pro's are so serious about what should be in my opinion a relaxing weekend hobby. with that said i do intend to do whatever i can to help get this record certified for this young man. he did a great job in his first tournament on a very tough day.

Any of you guys in the area need to certify a catch and are in a pinch drop by the marina. I've certified a ton of fish on different lakes. My number is on the front door if we are closed-
