Picking me up some new gear they will be used in freshwater some but mostly surf, jetty, pier and rigs.I'm stuck between 2 reels! Penn Battle 8000 and Fin Nor Offshore 8500/9500. Does anyone have experience with these? I would like some good input on which way to go!

Well, I have one friend that just bought one of the penn fierces, and it seems like a great reel, especially for the price. And I have another friend that owns a penn sargus, and what do you know, its great too. BUT, my next reel will probably be a Fin Nor (just because I already own 3 penns)

You can't go wrong with either. My preference is Penn because it's very easy to break them down and get spares.

All information its greatly appreciated! I just haven't been in the salt enough to know what's good and what's not. I heard I should look at a Shimano Spheros as well but I see a lot of mixed reviews on them and the line capacity isn't as well as these other 2! I haven't decided for sure but I'm still leaning heavy on the Battle

You must look at DAIWA WHISKER SS TOURNAMENT (1300,1600,2600) super spinning reel for salt water (price/quality)

I have been thinking about the Battle series too, although have heard that the Fierce is a better bang for the buck.
Probably you will not go wrong with either one.
I have friends that use Fin-Nors and others who swear by the Penn SS series and any Penn... and Jean up above knows much more than I do, so I will look at the Daiwa too smile

I will also look at the daiwa. I'm looking to hold 500yds of 50lb braid. Will the daiwa come close to that?

Penns are made in China now. If you get one make sure you tighten all the parts up before you use it. Just got a 450 and lost the side cap the first day. They guy at the parts place told me it happens a lot. I have one thing to say about reels Shimano !

Penn Fierce 8000 would be best bang for the buck.
The reel is solid and the price is cheap ($~60).
