I am trying to get into using artificials but also like using minnows. I am trying to figure out the best way to rig a jig and a minnow. I would also like to use just a jig. Does any body know a good loop not to use. Thanks

Hard to explain, but for a loop knot. I just put the line through the eye, get about 6 inches of line through. Hold the two ends together and pass the entire thing through the loop twice then pull tight and try to dress the knot where the actual knot is as close to the eye as possible.

I use that double surgeon's loop knot a lot and it would be great fishing a heavier jig with a minnow I think. However, maybe it is just me but I don't think it works as well when the bite is lite with smaller jigs, etc. Also, it is slightly weaker than most fishing knots.

I haven't found any loop knots as strong as a Palomar knot. Loop knots and 6lb test mono can get you in trouble lifting crappie in the boat. I do use a look knot for double drop rigs but watch the knot closely and re-tie often.
