Run as fast as you can to Chevrolet or the Ford eco boost, I drive a 2012 tundra 5.7 and pull a 21 ft skeeter 8-9miles a gallon maybe and my buddy has the 4.6 pulling the same boat and he might get 10, if I could blow this truck up I would, I absolutely HATE it. POS big time

2008 Tundra 5.7L, my boat/trailer is pretty light though, 14 mpg when towing, 18 mpg on the highway when not. Love the truck!

I bought a 2012 with the 5.7 liter, My boat is not big just a 17 foot javelin but I am very happy with the bigger motor, it does not ha ve to work as hard Towing, I think if you are going to be travling where there are a lot on Hills and stuff, you would be better off with the bigger motor, If you are just going to local lake in the metropleax then the 4.7 might be just fine, I go to LBJ from Castroville and there are some pretty stiff hills, I was pulling with a 4.7 engine at first and it worked its tail off nto get up a few of them for sure but with this engine I have now, I cant even tell I am pulling anything, set the cruise at 70 and just boogie on.

I have a 2010 with the 4.6 and have to say i think my mileage is better than alot mentioned. I get around 15 to 16 tow. 18 to 19 reg up to 20 to 21 hwy. i do only have a 17 ft boat though. And i have pulled other bigger boats(didnt pay attn to mileage then) and i can pull pretty much anything i think. I once pulled a truck out of a muddy ditch with the boat and trailer as well. I was on concrete and just drug the guy right on out no probs.

Chad,

I've owned a bunch of trucks as you know over the years. I drove a 2010 Sequoia with the 5.7 for two years. It was a pulling machine but over the course of 80K miles it averaged 13.8 mpg. That is Real World everyday driving with some towing mixed in. When I get my new trucks I never reset the MPG calculator so I can see what they really do.

The 2008 5.3 Suburban I came out of did 16.3 with the same exact conditions over the same 80K miles. My 2012 Sub is sitting at 16.1 with 31K miles on it. All were TWO WD.

Bottom line was the Toyota 5.7 is a Beast but you pay for it every time you go to the gas pumps. The 4.6 should be better by a couple mpg.

I have a 2003 v-6, 3.4 liter and have towed a TR 21 all over the state of texas with it and it does fine. Just have to turn off the OD. 12mpg towing, 19.5 without the boat. Has 185,000 miles on it and runs great.

The ecoboost (correct me if I'm wrong) get's 1 to 2 more MPG then the Tundra and it's has turbo's. Turbo's = trouble and maintenance. I think this is the first time Ford has stated using turbo's in their F150's and if so that spells trouble. I really don't think the new engineering is worth the risk for 1 or 2 mpg.

I have a 2010 4.6 Tundra and pull a 19' ProCraft. Never had a single problem, just punch in the tow haul and you can't even feel her behind you. Granted gas mileage isn't the best when towing, but I have seen a lot of trucks a lot worse off, so I am not complaining. I love my Tundra and don't have one bad thing to say about her.

My buddy has a brand new 4x4 Eco Boost he get 24.2 mpg highway and I've pulled my boat to Fork twice with it and got 16.2 both times, and had just as much power as this Toyota has. I travel for a living and I kick myself everyday for buying this Tundra.

Does your buddy drive only highway and 60 mph the whole time? That is 3 mpg more then what Ford claims. My fiances hybrid civic doesn't even get the claimed 44 mpg it's suppose to and you can't even drive that thing fast if you want to! haha
