I was there in February and two of us fished with arguably one of the best guides on the lake. For the day, I don't think the whole boat caught more than 7 fish. The guide did an excellent job, the fish were just not biting.

The next two days continued to be windy and the guy I was with did not want to take his boat out in those conditions.

Yes, I was there 3 days and never boated a fish.

Sounds like someone needs to buy a pontoon or build a pond if they just wanna fish on the "perfect" days. If your scared to fish then don't spend hard earned money on a boat. Sorry just a peeve of mine. My grandfather is same way so his $65k boat gets out maybe once every 3 months.

Been on it for a total of 3 days. The third day I didn't catch a 9#er or better. I had one on, just couldn't get it in the boat.

The first trip I made there was during the floods in 08 i think. I came down from Colorado with my dad.

I spent the first day and a half fishing in 15-20ft in mid feb thinking thats where I needed to be....after all I know it all and didnt ask anyone chit before coming... hell i didnt even know it was at flood level.

day 3 after banging myhead against a well catching like 3 fish my dad FINALLY talks me into going shallow...me being the absolute expert I am said we aint chatchin [censored] here in the shallows....We proceeded to whack em the rest of the week

BTW my dad is a pan fisherman or salmon fisherman he has fished 2 tournaments specifically for bass in his lifetime. I was coming off a season of the opens and made the fed team; so in my arrogance I wasted the first 3 days.

BTW I had conditioned myself to not fish shallow....there wasnt a damn biting fish in water deeper than 5' that week lol

And as a side note the first 4 times I fished falcon were at flood stage.

I've been twice and have not had a day of fishing there yet that lived up to my expectations of that lake. Story of my life

I was there last Thursday through Sunday. Everybody kept talking about the shallow bite. We flipped hardwoods near the river and threw cranks around rocky banks, but it just wasn't happening for us.

So we decided to buck the trend and head out deep (15-20 feet) and crank, which is what we usually do.

We didn't find a single spot that was loaded with fish, but we pieced together 5 fish for 35-04 with our smallest in that limit being 6-05 and the biggest at 7-14.

We talked to James at FLT and he was leading his local club tourney on Saturday with 15 lbs. on three fish - all caught shallow. He was frustrated at how tough the lake was fishing.

Amaya said the same thing. His words: "You can flip 5 miles of shoreline and catch 3 fish."

I guess the moral of the story is that bass are bass, even if they're Falcon Lake bass. They get in funks just like other fish do. We've had 100-fish-a-day trips and 10-fish-a-day trips. Granted, sometimes we've gotten sucked in to doing the wrong thing, but a lot of times the weather wasn't right and the fish just wouldn't bite.

Is there any other lake I'd rather fish? Heck no! But just because you launch your boat at Falcon doesn't guarantee you a 30-plus pound limit, that's for sure.

We were there last Thursday thru Sunday as well and heard a lot of talk about it being tough fishing. We managed a 9.4 and an 8.3 flipping the hardwoods and hooked several large fish on XD6s on the main lake ridges. All fish we caught or hooked were in 12 feet or less. We didn't catch the numbers that we heard about in the hotel from other TFFers, but left with our PBs and a big smile....
