Im working on creating my first hell pet and I don't know what to use to fill the where the second hook was. Can I fill it with superglue or can I just put the screw and stuff back in without the hook.

I don't do anything with it, but I am sure some super glue won't hurt. The key is the barrel sinker in front...kind of makes a sound like a rattle trap that draws the fish

I am just trying to fill the hole. But if water won't get in the hole and hurt the action or anything I don't have a problem leaving it

we just put the screw back in but you can leave it off...
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I would recommend fluorocarbon line for the pet spoon as well. It seems to me that the hybrids are more likely to bite when using fluorocarbon line....
What do the pros say?
enjoying fishing with family and friends

I am going to run my first this week as well. I was planning to run a striper jig but will pick up a spoon if necessary.
I hear some mention leaving a hook on? Really that big a deal?

i have always used the dd-22"s I have a couple of hellbenders with the spoons but we always seem to catch the sandbass, not the stripers. I was curious about using a sassy instead of the hellpets anyone had any success with this?

I had a customer a couple of weeks ago that put one of my flies on behind the hell bender and he caught more than anyone else in the boat. Anything they will normally hit they will hit behind the hellbender. Johnny

I use 50lb braid for the main line, which allows the bait to get down quicker, and for toughness. For the liter line between the Pet Spoon and the Hellbender, I use 50lb mono.
I would recommend taking off the treble hooks, so as to avoid permanently loosing your rig when you eventually hang up. You can leave the hook inserts unplugged, without any need to worry about water filling up the lure. Oh, and don't forget your barrel weight in place of your front treble hook.
As far as what to use behind the Hellbender, I'm with Sandjohnny on this one. We use Pet Spoons, Cotton Cordell spoons in the very small size, crappie jigs, etc. I will say that in my experience, the number 13 size Pet Spoon seems to work the best, especially after a cold front.
Secret Guide Tip: On cloudy days, make sure the spoon you're using is either gold, or has feathers on it. The lack of sunshine makes the chrome model hard to see, and your numbers will drop.

Luhr Jenson also makes a diving device called a jet diver, works better than a hell-pet due to once bite the diver no longer pulls against the fight.
