I have an HDS gen 2 8 on the console with structurescan and an HDS gen 2 5x on the bow. Can I get a second LSS-1 transducer and put it on the trolling motor and then just unhook the 5x tranducer cable if I have the 5x networked to the structurescan module via ethernet cable? Will the structure scan module know which transducer I am using or do I have to select the correct transducer on my hds gen 2 8?

You cant connect the LSS ducer directly to the 5x units...if your asking about just disconnecting the ducer from the back and plug in the one from the tm, then yes....you the units dont reconize that it's a different ducer, just if you had a second LSS box...

Ok, so I would need to run the LSS-1 trolling motor transducer cable to the structurescan box and unplug the current transom mount LSS-1...this would allow my 5x to use structure scan correct?

Yes, some are doing it this way...also The 5x needs to be connected to the LSS box to be able to see the structure scan...as long as a ducer is connected to the LSS box and your units are connected to that box, you will get images from which ever ducer you are using...

One last question, I just hooked up my HDS5x to my structure scan via ethernet cable and am able to get sonar and structure scan but when I try to bring up the map with my saved HDS 8 waypoints I have no luck. The waypoint numbers will show up in a list under "files/waypoints" but I cannot see the map.

Since the 5x does not come with GPS, I assume the waypoints saved on my HDS gen 2 8 will not show up on a map?

The 5x has no mapping capability locally or via network as far as I understand.

What about the NMEA2000 system? I think that allows GPS communication.
