I have been lucky this year. So far I have only encountered one idiot and even he was just trying be nice but he didnt realize he was being a idiot at the same time.

Oh.....and I did encounter one of them tournament fishermen that thought he owned the whole bank. I proceded to show him all the fish he left behind and thats when he told me he was coming back for those fish later. rolfmao

For the most part, Lewisville has gotten better year after year. Most of us regulars on Lewisville don't mind sharing our spots with others. Just shut the big motor off and drop the trolling motor. The only time I like fishing alone is when I am going after hybrids. Those big hybrids are very boat shy and tend to vacate the area when a couple boats show up.

To be within casting distance of someone while they are fishing is too close and I can cast quite far. Gas motors need to be shut down one hundred yards away.

Where does it say we got WITHIN 50 feet? Open the box below and re-read the original post. Click on the box below. It will show you the post Frank I made.

1 - Frank I said 50 feet. It was more like 40 yards. It was not 50 feet and IF it was, we were still at a safe distance while we idled into the area.

2 - You mentioned "within casting distance". You and I can throw a 1oz slab 100 feet +.

3 - If you're fishing for SB on any North Texas lake I suggest you get pretty damn comfortable with boats being feet apart.

Thing is we had to be at least 50 feet from his fat self and we were harding moving. Lewisville is Loserville for the most part on the weekends.

The fella was throwing a heavy cork with a weight. I thought at first that he was drifting but he wasn't. He has a nice boat for sure smile

Have u ever fished a bass tourney? Have you ever launched your boat on a 2-4 lane boat ramp at the same time as another person? Have u ever pulled into a marina the same time another boater is pulling out? If so your gas motor quote is no god bud.

But hey, I don't own the lake and nor does the next guy. That's y its public. Sometimes we all get ticked off because of other people on the water. Sometimes I don't like jet skiers and ski boats cause they annoy me, at the same time, us fishermen may annoy them. That's just the way it is guys. No need to be mean to anyone out there. That's just the way they were taught!!!

Good luck out there guys!!!

Nothing wrong with 50 feet. I do not know who the slob was, but I can guarantee he was not a regular on LL. We are all used to the boat shows. Like someone mentioned above, he probably had not caught many all day. One lesson I have learned over my fishing career is not to yell at or correct another boater. That is where the trouble starts. We are all out there having fun. Fishing is just a game to me and do not take it so seriously.

I remember just beginning fishing from my own boat (back in the 70's). It was a nice Glastron bass boat with a Mercury 150 HP. It was in the Summer and there were a few boats fishing a school of whites in about 20-30 feet of water. Sound familiar? Well, I had not mastered the trolling motor yet and was struggling keeping it positioned. I looked up and I was just a few feet away for these two older gentlemen and almost hit their boat. I overheard one of them say "let's find us another spot" and they left. They said nothing to me and gave me no ugly looks. That is the way I have tried to act since then.

Does everyone understand how short 50-feet really is? That is pretty close considering these guys are catfishing (lines are not hanging straight down). You should be able to see their lines angling out away from their boat and then assume the circumference from that and stay another 10-20 yards out from that. If they are not anchored they are drifting. See this at Tawakoni all the time.

Is 50 feet a safe distance, absolutely. Is it a respectful distance to run your gas motor, it looks like there is a difference of opinion on that. It definitely takes a more mature fisherman (and skilled enough to know they can go find more fish) to just pack up their stuff and leave politely and not say anything. Sometimes that is harder to do than others. As DTA said,it seldom results in a positive outcome when you try to correct someones inappropriate behavior on the water regardless of the specifics. People also can have very different subjective accounts of the same event...50 feet and 60 yards are two different things. If OP said 60 yards dont think there would even be a discussion here.

You are correct, redfin. Keep away from their lines if they are angled out from the boat. Just common sense.

In my opinion 50 feet is to close to be running your big motor when others are already there fishing whether anchored or using the TM.

I usually don't say anything unless they are about to hit my boat. Yesterday on lewisville I was fishing next to nitro and another TFFer that I can't remember his name but we were chasing a school of big sandies and they kept castin directly of my line every other time and then nearly hit my boat once. At one point they tried to get ahead of us since they didn't have a trolling motor they started up their motor and cut me off within 3 feet of the bow of my boat and the guy turns back and says sorry. If you know what your doing an say sorry don't do it. But then I'm used to these idiots on lewisville.

Depending on the wind and the size and content of the loogie, I can spit 50' and will if you run in on me like that. I took a 85 year old Navy veteran fishing on EM and we were into them pretty good almost every cast, cool hand Luke type cruises by circles, stops and kills the bite. I relocate and find another school and we start catching again, cool hand Luke blows in again within 50' and fish stop and scatter. The Navy vet I was fishing said, you know if we were on a battleship, I could have taken that idiot out from 2 miles away. Be a trendsetter and be courteous peep
