 hds with lss acting weird got a question

I have a hds7 gen 2 with LSS2 and its linked with a hds5x in front the problem is the 5 x won't pickup anything from LS S unless the HDS 7 is in chart mode so is this normalor do I have problems its all new so I have no idea about it any help would great
