Since its summer and a lot of us go deep this time of year I thought this video would help some of you that are curious about deep water structure fishing. Justin Rackley is a great bass angler and his YouTube videos are always good. It's not from a kayak but you can apply the same principles to be successful from your yak. Enjoy!

Great video...this is exactly what I was looking for.

Couple of questions:
1. I'm always a little reluctant to fish open water in my kayak. How do y'all make sure you stay visible? Currently I have a Visicarbon and a lime green kayak

2. Do you have trouble cranking from a kayak without anchoring?

In my opinion the best thing you can do is don't rely on others to see you. It's great if you have a flag and bright colors but some folks just plain don't pay attention. Keep your head on a swivel and be ready to wave your paddle if you feel someone doesn't see you. For cranking, if I am in deep water fishing a specific target then I am 90% of the time anchored. A DD crank can pull you around a little and get you out of position. I don't pretend to be an expert but it's wha I have experienced personally. Hope this helps.

Long time cyclist and finding that Kayaking on a lake is not unlike riding a bike. Keep it always in your mind that no one sees you and you have to see for them. Ride/paddle very defensively!

Fishing was great on Fork this weekend in deep water. I was fishing from 22-26 feet around submerged trees. I caught a 7.8, a 6.2, 6.1, 5.6, 9.0 that I was able to weigh and a bunch of 3 lb and 4 lb size bass. I had 3 big fish come off at the kayak. I fished on the bottom with a large TX rigged worm, football jig, and heavy shakey head worm. Make a lot of casts until you get bit. Once you catch a bass continue to fish that area and find out if they are schooled up.

I plugged away for at least 3 hours on one spot in 24ft of water Saturday evening on Fork and caught around 16 bass, and lost 7 bites. I moved around the Lake as well. I fished Chaney (no luck) in the morning, Mustang around noon, and the creek just north of Chaney in the evening.

You have to cover a lot of water, use your fish finder and fish fast. If you don't get bit immediately then the fish aren't there so move on. I rarely if ever make repeated casts to stumps and submerged trees when I�m trying to locate deep water bass.

Also keep in mind that going deep in the summer time isn't always the answer. Early and late big bass can be found in less then a foot of water. Even in the middle of the day there are toads to be found chasing shad it the shallows. Just keep a open mind and watch what's going on around you!
