Redear aka Shellcracker aka Chinquapin + other names. Biggest sunfish in the Lepomis genus.

That my friend is a Red Eared Sunfish...aka Shellcracker...NOT a crappie and NOT a bluegill. Slightly better eating than a crappie in my opinion, and a pretty good example of the species for these parts. If you caught one, I bet there's more. I'd try that area again.

 here is a picture of a picture of a 1.75 lb. red year I caught in Arkansas a few years back.

+1 Some rude foreign guy climbed in there and started shuckin' them back out. Maybe he was gonna use them for cut bait. He would raise his fist in the air and call me Chink a Pin or something like that everytime he found another in all that trash!!!! This, sir, would have been a sight to see!

I thought they may be some evasive species!!! I dumped the whole 5ga. bucket of them in the dumpster!! Some rude foreign guy climbed in there and started shuckin' them back out. Maybe he was gonna use them for cut bait. He would raise his fist in the air and call me Chink a Pin or something like that everytime he found another in all that trash!!!! Russian or something!!! Maybe French!!! Heck of a personality!!! I would have got him some shad if he would have been nicer!!! Those fish are not invasive. As a matter of fact, Texas has been introducing those fish to Texas lakes to eat the invasive snails called quagga mussels. I have never heard the term Chink A Pin but I'm asian and if I would have heard that guy yelling that out, it would have been pretty funny. That's a shame, good eating fish.

PS this thing eats the Shiggetty out of Mussels and get to enormus sizes doing so I hope they introduce them by the truck loads to controll Zebra Mussells.
