Just bought a new Tacoma and it came with the round 7 blade plug. I bought an adapter that is supposed to covert either a 4 or 5 inline plug. The trailer lights all light up when I turn on the lights but only the passenger side brake light lights up when the braked are applied and only the passenger turn signal works.
Anyone know why...do I need to try a different adapter?

Go to the bas oat central web site. Under forums look for trailer towing wiring forum. There are several good wiring digrams that will help you trace the wiring. I just finished rewiring my dodge because the backup lights were on the wrong pole.

They make the adapters with little indicator lights in them which can be handy. The other way is to get a tester light and turn on the emergency flashers. Find a good ground and test each prong on the truck side. Some of the seven pins have a diagram on the cover. I think the one I had on my Tacoma did but I lost the factory hook up to a rock in a creek bed long ago.

Have you checked the bulb? Usually an 1157 double filament.

Come to find out the actual fixture was damaged. I changed the bulb first thing and noticed the corrosion but figured since one element in the bulb was working it should be okay. Finally took it to Magill's in Lewisville and after checking everything from the adapter to the actual wiring determined it was simply a bad fixture. All fixed and good to go now...
