Boat doesn't have one up front yet. Have lowrance hds5 at drivers seat. How much do u really need? Just get something cheap to determine depth transitions or what.

I wouldn't go cheap. I spend most of my time on the front deck. I like a bigger screen with a split view showing chart and sonar. Helps me to stay on waypoints. Better units mean better sensitiviy and clarity, which really comes in handy when drop-shotting. I also went external antenna for faster updating of gps position.

plus 1. But it is nice to have your units networked. If you can afford it put another 5 up front. Or better yet move your console unit up front and throw a HDS-7 at the console.

I've got a 7 at console and a five up front works well but honestly I wish I would have waited and saved money a little longer and bought another 7 for the front that's my 2 cents worth

I just moved my HDS7 to the front and put a HDS10 at the console. I wish I had done this originally.

2 things you dont want to go cheap on are electronics and a trolling motor.

along with batteries, rods, reels, tackle and everything else.

good to have GPS up front so you can stay on way points.

Don't go cheap up front! That's where you are most of the time.

Different strokes. FZ1 is shallow power,so I just need 1 unit mounted on the bow. I adjust it vertical,so I can see it,when I'm running. I adjust it flat,so I can see it,when I start fishing,on the front deck. FZ1 wants only 1 transducer in the water and the transducer,is,always, mounted on the transom.

I have a 798ci hd si on console and wish I cud afford a bigger one. I have a HB black and white 713 on bow which is connected to the 798 at console with ethernet cable. I keep the 713 full screen on the chart view so I get a better view when going to a waypoint.

I have a HB 788CI DI HD beside the 713 on bow, which I use for sonar. Works great.

In process of building a mount for the 788 which keeps the transducer pointint forward and not moveable like with it mounted on TM. I will set the transducer at a 70 degree angle, which will show whats 30 feet in front of boat in 10 feet of water. TYhis way, I can fish a brushpile before I get to it and scare fish. Works great.

Move the 5 up front after you buy an 8 for the console and network, si, and GPS puck 4000 series. In the end you will be pretty happy with that set up. Deep I will throw a buoy anyway for marking spot. Before you buy a 7 look at it side by side with the 8 there is a big difference as the 7 is not a 7 inch screen. I went to buy a 7 and walked out with an 8 After comparing. None of this will be cheap.
