I thought they may be some evasive species!!! I dumped the whole 5ga. bucket of them in the dumpster!! Some rude foreign guy climbed in there and started shuckin' them back out. Maybe he was gonna use them for cut bait. He would raise his fist in the air and call me Chink a Pin or something like that everytime he found another in all that trash!!!! Russian or something!!! Maybe French!!! Heck of a personality!!! I would have got him some shad if he would have been nicer!!!

Its a redear! Largest in the sunfish family... chanquipin or something like that is what some people I know from the Louisiana area call them. The question is where was he caught and on what bait?

Yes and no depending on who you ask. Scientifically yes, but there are people that don't consider (blackbass) as sunfish.. kinda like you never hear people call crappie sunfish either, but scientifically they are. Since I'm not a scientist, I see it as red ear being the largest growning "sunfish." Kinda like bluegill, longear, pumpkinseed, yada, yada yada. Good point though, don't want to give any wrong info..

That is a female Red Ear or Shell Cracker the males will have a red or bright orange gillplate they get pretty big in some parts some other names are Chinquipin.
