Headed to Port A Friday. Wondering if the Arlington Academy is worth checking out, mostly bass fish - so I have never noticed what the salt selection was like. This is my first salt/surf fishing trip and I was wondering if its worth the 20 min drive or just go through Tackle Town on the way down.

I want to work some spoons and topwater as well as live stuff. Fishing with another amateur buddy, we have 4 baitcast and 3 spinning setups

BUy it down there. The Hardware store headed south out of Town( Port A) is the cheapest but there are other tackle stores too.

Popping cork and carolina rig with live shrimp, mullet, and croacker will get you reds, specks, whitting and possibly a shark.Lures would be gold spoons, bass assassin, and any kind of gulp. If you can find fish bites I would pick some up.

Go to Port A Outfitters. They have everything you'll want or need and reasonable prices.

Tackle Town is way over in Rockport and way out of the way. Port A Outfitters is backs right up to the marina.

The tackle store on cut off rd near 361 is a good choice for tackle. Use a cast net for bait also..

Thanks for the info. I do have a cast net but not sure how much good that will do me, Been watching vids and practicing but still suck at it.

Gonna check out Port A outfitters for sure. We were gonna go through Tackle Town on the way in if it was the best option.

The one off 361 ----Island Tackle?

How big is your net? Just a little advise from what Ive learned, having alot of length hanging from your hand when you throw will give you a wider throw but lessen the distance you can throw it, therefore having less length hanging over your hand when you throw will give you greater distance but generally open less. I tend to throw mine kind of like a discus thrower, you want the weights to get centrifugal force to open up so a wide arc with your right hand, if youre right handed, and then use your left hand to throw in the same direction. So, if you are right handed you are throwing counter clockwise.

It helps me, if I am on shore I will just flat out leave the rope on the ground when I throw, that eliminates the rope getting caught comming off your hand/arm. In the water I almost always leave it wrapped loosely around my hand.
