I believe the MiniMags were overshadowed by the popular BVK series and somewhat neglected as a very versatile fly rod. IMO it is the best engineered fly rod on the market - the technology is amazing � �S� glass butt section, transitioning into a �hybrid� �S� glass/carbon fiber mid section, with a very sensitive carbon fiber tip section.
Smooth casting fly rod with a tip sensitive enough to feed a blue gill headshake on a 8-10wt MiniMag.

As much as I like the BVK, if I was restricted to only ONE fly rod, it would be a 8-10 MiniMag.

Couldn't agree with you more. They have so much power for the rocks and bull dogging redfish and black drum on the flats. The 6-8wt is a perfect flats rod with plenty of speed to punch a fly through a stout wind. Put a fly line with a short and heavy taper (redfish) and you can load the rod with very little effort. I have turned about 8 fishermen down here on to them, and it's every one of their go-to rod.

Like I have mentioned before, I have landed 40" tarpon on on the 6-8wt and didn't feel under gunned. I have also caught tarpon in the same size range on 8wt and 10wt and felt the fish had more control than I did.

Ok ... I have a 7wt rod already ... had my eye on the MM 8-10 for saltwater duty. Would the 6-8 be a better option?

I have. It too is a great rod for throwing heavy lines and heavy flies. The 8wt didn't seem to carry line as I would like, but it's not designed to. I have never fished it, so can't say much about the lifting power.



It depends on how you plan on fishing it. If you are mostly going to use it on the flats go with 6-8wt, if you're planning using it from the rocks or surf get the 8-10wt. IMO, 8wts and above are too much rod for the Texas flats, not to mention the MM 6-8wt has incredible power. If you went by grains the 6-8wt would actually be an 8wt-10wt if that helps your choice.

I have one, and for a bass rod it is great, for a flats rod it is superb, and even has some pretty good lifting power too

And- I've always been a TFO fan in general. So yup, I guess I am!

And ... if that rod is half as good as GG says it is, it sounds like a bargain at MSRP.

Now I just need an opportunity to get to the coast!

It's better than what he says it is!!! I love my 8/10 MM.
I'm also hoping to pick up a 6/8 MM this week.
They are phenomenal kayak rods!!!

I hope they are going to be good. I just ordered a 8/10 with a BVK 3 reel this morning .

I just started building mine tonight for my trip to Louisiana next week.
